With the warmer weather on its way and lockdown restrictions beginning to be lifted, many of us are turning to our gardens in order to get them ready for summer. Often the first thing we do when we come out of the winter and in to the spring months is to cut the grass. Often you do not want to make the first cut too short in case we get a frost. It can be hard trying to find a time when the grass is dry enough to cut during the first few weeks of spring.
If you want to have a seating area in your garden but don’t have a patio or your current patio doesn’t get the sunlight at the right time, you may consider installing decking. Decking id a wooden platform that can be built in a garden to give you a raised area on which to put your tables and chairs. Firstly, a wooden frame is built to cover the area that you want decking on. Once the frame is fitted then planks of grooved wood are laid and secured across the frame to create a raised platform. You can have decking which has a small gap between the planks of wood but if you are having chairs on their it is often not the best idea as the legs of the chair can fall down there.
If you use a company to supply and install the decking for you, it will probably come pre-treated to withstand the weather. If you buy the decking separately or second hand, it may need to be treated prior to use.
Decking can really transform a garden and make it look neat and tidy. It is easy to keep clean and if looked after correctly, can last a good number of years. It is not cheap and will often cost around a thousand to two thousand pounds for an area of 15m and will usually take a professional company around two days to install. Most decking companies will give you a guarantee but be sure to check this when comparing quotes.
Although the most common type of decking is pre-treated softwood you can often for a PVC deck. PVC Plastic decking is another great option for your garden and is usually priced at around thirty to forty pounds per square metre, offering you an aesthetically pleasing decking material with mould-resistant qualities.
